Padang Beach

Padang beach (also known as Taplau or Tapi Lauik in the local lingo) is the most accessible beach area in this coastal city. The beach is located close to the ferry port along the coastal area from Samudra street until Puruih.

Due to its close location to the harbour, the water is quite murky here and not really suiatable for swiming. However, the beach area is surrounded by trees and hills that make it shady and windy, just nice for people to hang around to enjoy the view. Padang beach is also well-known for its beautiful sunset as well as a number of cafes and road side food stalls along the beach. All this eateries make Padang beach area lively at night where people hang out here for dining or just people watching.

Since the beach is facing the wide open Indian Ocean, the tides can get very strong here and the waves can get quite rough as well.
